I love this game thus far. The aiming system takes some getting used to and I keep having to manually adjust the camera every time I freaking drive. Other than that, terrific depth, outstanding visuals, fun gameplay. Can’t wait to try the multi later tonight.
And I’m liking dating. I’m having more success with virtual dating than real-life dating.
I really want to check this game out, but the only way to play it would be to take money out of my Australia trip:P
Generally, I ignore reviews from major publications now days because it seems like a games are getting high scores due to pay offs, but I have to say I was impressed with IGN giving it a 10(first one since Ocarina of Time!). All my friends who picked it up have nothing but glowing remarks themselves.
I’ll probably check it out at the end of the year when I get back. At least by then the buzz will be down, and I can find out for certain if it’s worth shelling out my dough.
This is one of the reasons I’m inviting the community to post their reviews of the game. I always like hearing the reviews of my peers above reviews of game reviewers.
You know Becky that I have told you before that I no longer really care for pro reviews on games anymore. So I am hoping to get everyone’s opinion from here as well. From my friends at home and at work, they have mostly good things to say about the game, but I would like to see what the consensus would be on here as well.
Absolutely love it…my internet and real life is seriously gonna be strained for the next few months while I play this. Everything about it I give two thumbs up. Only reason I am taking a break now is b/c I gotta eat. LOVE IT!
“I love this game thus far. The aiming system takes some getting used to and I keep having to manually adjust the camera every time I freaking drive. Other than that, terrific depth, outstanding visuals, fun gameplay. Can’t wait to try the multi later tonight.”
I completely agree whit you.
“My boyfriend is currently playing it and says the driving is harder than previous GTA and shooting is easier”
He’s right but once you practice this moves a little bit, you start getting the hang of it.
I freaking love the game, but am having the same problems as Mandy. I never played the others in the series, and I suck at driving at the moment so I keep failing missions. I hit the break to hard and spin out really easy…LOL. Still, I will master it soon and cause some trouble!
I just got it last night. I played it for a couple of hours and had to replay one of the very first missions four times, because I kept smashing into buildings with my car. Driving in this game is very difficult for me. Plus, the cousin kept shouting “catch up with him! can’t you drive?!” and I wanted to throw the controller across the room.
I played the very first GTA but this is my first GTA experience since then. I’m wishing there was a way to change the difficulty for GTA noobies like me
Though I suppose, like others suggested, it just takes getting used to.
I can’t believe some of you haven’t play a GTA game before. were you living under a rock? Weren’t you even curious? That’s the difference between guys and girls. Men love to hunt and explore. Women like to nest, focusing on one thing. Sameway I flip through channels and girls like to just stay on one channel.
Actually Orionsaint, I am pretty sure “the difference between guys and girls” is the whole vagina/penis thing, boobies, and the ability to enjoy Grey’s Anatomy.
I don’t like the camera on the car, but other than that I have no qualms with the game. It’s stunning and a masterpiece, the perfect game. The story is absorbing and the multiplayer is pretty cool (of what I have played). The only downside is all of the idiots on multiplayer… I CANT STAND all the cursing and screaming in my ear. It’s annoying, but can’t be helped.
Rockstar should seriously have some moderators on the voice channels.
My first impressions are “grrrrr”, because once again a developer has failed to release the game on the king of gaming systems- the PC.
I know WHY, but I still dislike the trend.
So I can’t participate once again- just like I still haven’t ever seen a God of War game, or Mass Effect (doubt it’ll run on my PC when it’s out), or the last many GTAs.
/sigh Ok, I’m pouting. Of course, the problem is I have to stay more and more out of the news loop because people give too much info and spoilers away, ruining the games for any future gameplay when I finally get to!
Haha, on a whim I went to Family Video and rented the last copy for a few bucks, so I get to at least play through the entire single player story and try some multiplayer.
Game is an absolute blast and is a great achievement on every level. It got it’s hooks on me during the opening credits and hasn’t let up since.
I had trouble with the driving too at first, but now I can handle it like a pro. Haven’t really found any problems with the game at all!
I’m enjoying it. I’ve unlocked the second island today. But what can I say? Haven’t played all previous GTA games, when it comes down to it. It’s a GTA game, just done bigger and better, but the similarities both in look and feel, seem to somehow rear its ugly head. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, but considering the hype. I was expecting a game that was gonna change video games forever, the next evolution. In the end its not. It’s more GTA. Nothin wrong with that. I really love the game, just don’t go making it out to be as epic as the critics say it is, lower your expectations a tad. It’s still amazing in every respect. Just for GTA vets like me. It’s more GTA, not that anyth…wait i’m repeating myself now. See what playing video games for 30 years does to you kids. It rotts ya brains! hehe.
My first was GTA2.
GTA3 was phenomenal.
Vice City and San Andreas weren’t as good as I had expected..
Then this comes, and it BLEW me away! I wasn’t expecting much, I got more than I had hoped! 9+ for me, the controls are SO much easier in this one versus the previous and classic GTAs.
This is my first GTA as well. I think that if you are more use to the 360 controller, you can get the driving down quicker than if you are use to the PS controller. I’m having a bit of a hard time chasing down the laundry mat guy because I can’t take my corners the best yet but… Trying to find other strategies to get him.
That’s what I love about this game. There are a billion different ways to play and each one of us will have a different experience.
I’ve been in Orange County all weekend and was soo busy I didn’t have a chance to play so, I am VERY much looking forward to going home tonight and kicking the CRAP out of that laundry mat guy!
Oh wait till you go to the top of the Empire State building and jump off lol. It takes a while to hit the ground, like i’ll scream things - OH GOD! THIS ISN’T HAPPENING! I’M FALLING! OMG LOOK AT THIS VIEW! OMG HERE COMES THE GROUND. SAD, ISN’T IT FOLKS? AHHHH!!!! Splat! lol.
For GTA vets It’s incredible how different, yet the same GTAIV feels. So driving isn’t much of problem for me. I hope you get that laundry mat guy Aktrez and bitch slap him lol.
I tried the MP tonight on free roam. Let me tell ya, thats the most fun i’ve had online gaming in a long time!!! Everyone sounds so clear and the everything in Liberty City runs so smoothly. It’s fun getting in a car with everyone and just cruisin around talking. It’s like a chatroom, but you can shoot each other. It’s a virtual playground with friends. At one point we decided to hold up the stripclib. We all agreed not to shoot each other and meet there. Getting there was half the fun as we told each other our current locations and situations. “Currently the cops are chasing me and I have a 3 star wanted level.” I saw him drive by doin 90 with 3 cop cars behind him lol. Another guy said, “i’m swimming there”. Someone else said. “I’m getting thre with the helicopter”. Watching each person arrive at the stripclub was hilarious. Cars all damaged, some with rims sparking. We laughed. “you made it!” lol. Just so many funny things can happen. It’s also cool that you can be male or female. We had a girl playing with us and it was fun to piss her off and watch her exact her revenge on us, but we were all friendly about it. Until some aholes entered the room. Then it got ugly lol.

Ugh, maybe that’s a negative…

I played a bit, I’m terrible at driving. I didn’t play the other ones, so… I have a bit of practicing to do.
My boyfriend is currently playing it and says the driving is harder than previous GTA and shooting is easier.

Aktrez, can you keep this thread near the top?, because not all of us have gotten our copies yet.
Great game. My only problem is trying to find time to play both Mario Kart and this game.

I just tried out the cheat codes and blew up everyone with a rocket launcher. Greatness.
But you can’t earn achievements with cheat codes!
