Fanatics have been anxiously awaiting for THIS blockbuster weekend, and it would seem that Iron Man is a shoe-in for domination…. BUT, could its demise come in the form of one of the most anticipated games EVER! Is it curtains for Iron Man? WILL he survive his opening day unscathed?
Video Games are eclipsing movies in sales and the trend won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Rece
nt studies show that the gaming market has increased 20-30% this year, while the movie industry has seen no change. Most of the money earned for movies is in DVD sales. People are getting wise to the idea that you don’t have to watch every movie that comes out on screen, but to watch those that are WORTHY of being SEEN and HEARD in the glory of surround sound *YEAH*! Well, thats what I think anyway.
With all the controversy swirling around GTA, it is still deemed “PERFECT” in the eyes of many reviewers; a 10 out of 10! It is known as “The Godfather” of games right now due to its new layout, story line (which I’ve read is very Martin Scorsese-ish), and the “cult-like following.”
Rockstar Games expects to earn a mind numbingly ridiculous $400 million (and more) in sales. Not a bad chunk o’ change I must say…. but Iron Man producers don’t seem to be worried. They feel that “Young males” (*ahem* and females, sheesh) will be able to “carve 2 hours” away from their schedule of beating, pillaging and plundering to get off their rumps. The reason they aren’t worried is because Iron Man and GTA IV cater to (essentially) the same audience.
Lets do a little review, shall we? The last time a video game obliterated movie sales of epic proportions was last October, when Halo 3 was said to be the cause of Ben Stiller’s (The Heartbreak Kid) dismal opening.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I didn’t drool all over the cashiers’ window for tickets to see that particular movie. In fact, I haven’t even seen it yet. Shoot, I haven’t even tried playing Halo 3 yet either…. I know, I know, so lame of me…. but Ben Stiller is losing steam, and in my opinion, I don’t think Halo 3 had anything to do with it. “The Heartbreak Kid” has nothing to do with gamers. Don’t get me wrong, Ben Stiller is great, but c’mon…… “IRON MAN” or “THE HEARTBREAK KID.” Which of those two has the potential of peeling you away from GTA… or any game for that matter?
That being said, do you think Iron Man will suffer a fate similar to that of The Heartbreak Kid? Do you think GTA IV will ruin Iron Man’s weekend? Will you get off your butt and go see this movie? I know I will! The reviews are to yummy for me to miss this!!!

There will be blood. Oh YES!
Anyway, I think Iron Man will do good. Not Spider-Man good (which it deserves to do) but good enough to get a sequel. And it deserves every cent, great movie.
As for GTA IV, c’mon, we can’t all play it all the time. Can we?
You know, I know my friend loves his GTA IV, but more still than that, I know we are both going to see Iron Man. And I know many more people who are going to see the movie because 1. they don’t have the game yet, 2. they don’t even game, and 3. movies still catch more people’s attention.
I’ve been known to drop classes to game… *sad*! …. but, I have faith in this weekend.
Yeah, you want to hear bad, Traycee. You know where I work. You might have an idea how important my job is. So can you guess what I am going to do tomorrow. I am going to miss going to a mandatory divisional meeting so that I can go see the movie before I come into work. Yeah, not to sad there myself, eh?
*hehehehe*.. now that is awesome!
Oh, and DCD, we can game all the time.. it’s in our blood (you will never escape). Muahahahaha!
