90 Minute Cutscenes in MGS4

We all know that the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been known for it’s beautiful cut scenes. MGS4 takes the cake with some of the scenes topping at 90 minutes long (yes, more than one).

If some of you were expecting a good show it seems like now is prime time to start breaking out the popcorn. Expect to be spending a whole lot of time watching these extended cut scenes. It’s no wonder that Hideo Kojima almost had to put the game onto two blu-ray disks. You can pause them and skip them, but would you want to? The choice is yours. If your an impatient gamer you may want skip this one all together or skip the scenes. PSW magazine says, “MGS4’s story is massive. The videogame equivalent of all three Godfather movies on one disc”.

Holy Toledo. Are you serious? Damn, VK, I love cut scenes, but several 90 minute ones in one game seems a little excessive. Several 90 minute cut scenes? That is like watching Cloverfield a couple of times during the course of the game.

screw that! i can barely get through a 3 second cut scene before skipping it.

Really. I am one of those guys who you see walking into a Anime store or con looking to buy the dvds or vcds that have all the cool cut scenes and fmvs from my favorite games.

as long as i can pause during cutscenes in the game ill watch em all.

Holy crud. Excessively long cut scenes are annoying to me (I like gorgeous/awesome cut scenes, but there’s got to be a limit: I want to play, not watch a movie), but at least you can pause these ones.

I am a huge movie buff and I love novels…I really don’t mind when games combine what i love about other forms of media into one experience. Sure 90 min is a bit excessive, but if the story is told right - and it is properly engaging…i don’t see the problem!!

Kojima Productions’ Assistant Ryan Payton recently said that the game having 90 minute cut scenes is a “gross exaggeration.”
