More and more each day video games are becoming more mainstream and more accepted by non-gamers and even our parents. People all over who have never picked up a game controller are now getting excited about games such as Guitar Hero and are playing the Wii then purchasing it as their very first game console. Nintendo and Activision have really hit upon something good here, they have started a revolution.
Now many hotels across America are incorporating Wii Sports and Guitar Hero in some of their special offerings, even widening the exposure to such games to a whole new level and a whole new audience. Maybe “Mr. Business Man” in Hotel Monaco in Seattle who travels a lot is bored and lonely in yet another hotel room, so he goes down to the bar to have a drink and finds they are holding a Guitar Hero night. He is then exposed to a completely different type of entertainment, something he would have probably never encountered at any other hotel. Or how about the cute little old couple going to the “big city” who then finds new excitement in Wii Sports which is an added special in their room. For the first time in years they are up and moving around, laughing and have a good time again. Not only do I love the idea of these options in hotel rooms for my own entertainment, but seriously, think about it…this kinda stuff brings smiles to people who you would have never expected to be playing a video game. I think it can seriously change lives.
In other (sorta related) news, Portal’s “Still Alive” is now available for you to download on Xbox Live Marketplace for Rock Band. You know that song….everyone knows and secretly sings that song in their heads. It’s damn catchy, it’s damn cute, and now it can be all yours FOR FREE! The download will only be available for you Xbox Rock Band users for at least a few weeks. Then the Playstation users get it later….ahh, so good to be a 360 owner.
I am just keeping my fingers crossed that this isn’t some April Fools Joke like EGM’s Lego Halo preview was. I remember last years EGM April Fools Joke was the first one that broke my heart when I found out it was a fake. They announced that Nintendo and Square teamed up and was making a Mushroom Kingdom Hearts game, where adorable Disney characters like Mickey and Goofy join up with lovelable Nintendo characters like Mario and Princess Peach. I look back at it now and see how insanely impossible that would be, and how naive I was to believe such a thing could happen, but damn I was so excited.

Cool. Still, I take my Wii everywhere when I travel.
