Giselle’s spontaneous singing and fairy-tale demeanor enchant everyone around her as she waits for Prince Edward. * When Nancy arrives at Robert’s apartment to find Giselle there, Robert is in need of a shave. When he chases after Nancy as she leaves the building and gets into a taxi, he is clean-shaven. When he returns to the apartment, he has considerable beard growth again.
* In the scene where Edward comes to Robert and Morgan’s apartment to get Giselle, as Giselle is explaining what a date is to Edward, if you look to the bottom left where Giselle was just standing next to Robert, you can see the pink tape on the floor that marks where she was supposed to stand.
* When Prince Edward is on top of the bus, he stabs the bus through the roof, and hits the old lady’s bag, tearing it open. There’s no way his sword was long enough to go through the roof of the bus and reach all the way to the woman sitting down. He’d have to be hanging upside down inside.

::adds movies to netflix::
I can’t really comment.. I’ve only seen Moulin Rogue!
(Big Fish & What Dreams May Come are on mine.. And Wicked.)
August 28th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
There are SO many that I could have added. Never Ending Story/Big Fish/Wicked/Splash…. the list could go on and on. It was VERY difficult to cut it down to 10!!
August 28th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Splash! I forgot abut that movie…adding it to queue. I am so happy with this list! Well done. I have seen all but the Penelope and Enchanted.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Penelope I love because of the art direction in it as well as the story. It’s one of those “learn to love yourself and others will love you” kind of deals. REALLY good and honest for young women to watch.
And Enchanted is just Disney gold!
August 28th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
…Keep believing, keep pretending. We’ve done just what we set out to doooooooo! Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you! (I love that song)
Great list. Penelope is the only one I haven’t seen. Most of the rest I own. I’m glad Princess Bride was topping off the list. Asides from Star Wars, I don’t think there’s a movie that had a bigger impact on my childhood and that I’ve seen more times than that one. (Although the Muppet Movie is up there too)
August 28th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Never Ending Story likely should have made it. other then that i think its a great list. I want Labyrinth to be #1 but you really can’t beat Princess Bride.
oh and there is always The Wizard of Oz
Stardust was a nice surprise, it was really good.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
I don’t agree with all the movies added, but I enjoyed the article. I do agree with number 1 though. Great choice!
August 28th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
See, here is the thing with Never Ending Story;
I saw it about 4 times a year as that and Secret of Nihm were the two movies my school loved having for movie nights every semester. So, I have seen that movie a LOT!!!
I recently went back and watched it… remember how much I loved it as a kid and you know what? It just didn’t hold up. It was SO cheesy and campy that it was hard to watch. I mean.. Labyrinth has it’s moments as do MOST movies from that era but for some reason…. I just couldn’t justify NES on this top 10. Maybe on a 12 or 13 list. Def. Again, you have to remember there are a LOT of great ones out there!
Also, note (and I have edited this in the post) these are the ORIGINAL farytales. not like Wizard of Oz or Snow White that are retellings of classics. I wanted to highlight the movies where the fairytales were new and different.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Not a fan of fairy tale movies; but The Princess Bride? That’s THE movie, haha. Hell, it’s been ages since I last saw the film but I still have a load of great memories from it. Definitely deserved the #2 place
By the way, agree on the #1 as well
August 28th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
PS: NES isn’t an original neither if I recall correctly. Rather a modern fantasy literature story
August 28th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
The Neverending Story is one of my favorites of all time. The book it was based on is really different than the movie. Plus when I hear Fairy Tale, I think love story, and I don’t think of Neverending Story as a love story.
Ha, I just saw this on Wiki about it: At the time of its release, it was the most expensive film to ever be produced outside of the United States or the USSR.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Adore Princess Bride, and I loved Stardust when I saw it in the theaters. I’ve missed a few of these (like Enchanted) but I’ll catch them on cable at some point.
I never get tired of Princess Bride though… love Cary Elwes in that. Inconceivable!
August 28th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
More like: INCONTHEIVABLE!
Also:
“You only think I guessed wrong! That’s what’s so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha…”
August 28th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
What happened to The Neverending Story… or Willow? Those were awesome movies.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I’m guessing that the main theme with these fairytales is that they have a female protagonist (other than Dark Crystal)!
Willow is a Nelwyn and in NES he was just a boy… though I have to say… I FREAKIN’ LOVE fantasy movies and I wish Hollywood would make more!!
Also, I’m super curious to see how the remake of Red Sonja will be… especially with Rose McGowan! She’s pretty awesome so *eeeek*!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
I know, I love her. She will make a great Red Sonja. But I like the original as well. Still, the comic book version of her is the best in my opinion.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Hey, remember the Conan TV series. They had an episode that starred Red Sonja. She was played by that model/actress Angelica Bridges I think. I think it was her at least. I may be wrong. But I used to like that series.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Some really good movies on there (and totally appreciate not wanting to put Secret of Nimh or NES because they got overplayed)
Princess Bride is a longterm fave. The 3 duels are some of my favorite scenes in film, especially fond of “Inconcievable!” and “My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father”. Willow and Spash were good too, but nobody talks about either too often or Time Bandits (which is sorta in a similar vein ish)
I have yet to see half of that list :\ Never enough time money, or I get sidetracked
August 29th, 2008 at 5:22 am
some those movies were really great
I enjoyed so many of them
August 29th, 2008 at 9:44 am
yeah NES gets booted then since its based on Book. and yeah it is kind of cheesy now.
Willow, was fun, but I have to say its a little cheesier then NES.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Hey just an FYI, itunes has some of these movies (I believe) for rent for only $3.99. I’ve been having a HAYDAY renting movies I haven’t seen yet on there. Just watched 27 dresses last night and was crying like a baby!!! :p
August 29th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I love 27 dresses… and I ♥ James Marsden!! *sigh*!!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
August 29th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
I love James Marsden when he sings….. ie: Enchanted/Hairspray and yes…. even “Benny and the Jett’s”
August 29th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
<< Teh stone ages called, they told me I can’t leave yet, so no Itunes rentals for me :\
I’ll see em, eventually though! My philo is buy the movie (it’s cheaper than renting in the long run if you’re strategic about it) Course not having unlimited cash/space makes that slightly difficult … :p (as does when they sell out the second the stupid dvd comes out but meh) Sides, with films like those they’re good to have around for family viewing
(TBH I’m probably the only person that’s never rented anything their whole life. Never rented a movie or game even once ;x and I’ve bought almost all my games blind too)
August 29th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Great to see Legend on the list!! WHOO-HOOO!!
Tommy
August 31st, 2008 at 2:11 am
I’m surprised Willow was not one of the top 10 or Merlin whit Sam Neil. Shrek was popular too.
August 31st, 2008 at 10:13 am
Remember Ghost Dog, It’s not necessarily just what was popular. It’s OUR personal list. Though, I would probably put shrek at #11 cause those are great films.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:07 am
Well, thats what meant. Just posted the wrong words thats all >_> <__>
September 7th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
You got my 2 on here….. “Ever After” and “Princess Bride”. I’ve watched each of those probably 100 times or more.
Great list. Your #1 was perfect.
