Ok, sooo for about 20-something years Ive been what has been called a “girl gamer.” Now, for those of you who are out of the loop, there are many types of girls who game, but for now I’ll leave it at this- a girl gamer is a gamer who happens to have the biology of a female. Regardless of what it may be called, I am one. Sooo yeah. Im a gamer who’s female.

That being said, why is it such a HOT TOPIC with so many people? YES! I play games… NO it doesnt make me special that I’m a girl who plays video games. I could point you in the direction of thousands more.
Im really getting tired of the whole topic. Ive been playing games since I could remember. I never thought I was special in any way, mostly because I have always played with other girls who shared the same passion as me. No one girl is special because we play games… We are special as a WHOLE because we are a minority- and all that means is that we need to stick together- THATS my reason behind the girl gamer support. Thats why Im in PMS and thats why I wont ever bash another female who plays games… as long as they don’t give me reason to.
To be honest I hate the phrase “girl gamer” and I hate the stereo types that go along with it. I hate that every time I join match making someone either kisses my butt or makes me a target. I’m tired of the whole thing. I love my clan. I love the other girls I play with an interact with in the gaming industry. From the hardcore WoW players, to the army of females on halo, all the way to the casual Bejeweled players… I have a love for you all.
That being said, STOP thinking youre hot stuff because your underwear matches your wii. Stop ruining it for the rest of us. The good gamers are ones that win… and plenty of girls have won. SURE, there hasnt been any females who have placed first at MLG… SURE, there isnt a female fatality… but I can slay face on most of the games I play and that’s good enough for me. One day there WILL be a female taking first place at CPL. Until then I will keep my mouth shut… but it’s going to happen. It’s only a matter of time.
Anyway, I have been very fortunate to meet some awesome girls who have a serious passion for gaming. All the dedicated girls in PMS, the wonderful Frag Dolls, plenty of awesome girls from forums, random run-ins on Xbox live, and even through gaming groups on here. Its not about the gender, its about the love for the game.
Those are the real girl gamers. An opinion on a gamer should be based on more things than what kind of underpants they wear. It shouldn’t be about the pictures they take of themselves. It shouldn’t be about how they hold the controler, which genres they play, or even whether or not their kill death ratio is positive. It’s about LOVING video games.
The girls that are hardcore. The ones who can distinguish the difference between 8 bit and 32 bit platforms. The ones who wore away the “a” from the SNES controler. The ones who sit up til the butt crack of dawn with the “one more save point” mentality.
I read a really good blog post that my girl Megan wrote about girls who game and the stereo type that comes along with it. It was a good blog that had a lot of great comments on it- here’s the link, if you wanna read-http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Virtualgirl/my-thoughts-on-this-week-s-reverend-rant-are-you-a-grrl-gamer–55891.phtml
No offense to megan, aki, or any of the girls fighting the fight, but the topic is old and I see no reason to defend myself. Rev’s rant about girl gamers has been going on for as long as I remember there being an internet. Consider this my last word on the subject.

My only bashing is this- Any girl with a cute bra and a pretty smile can take a picture of herself with a controler covering up her “va-jay-jay” and CALL herself a gamer. There ARE a lot of attention whores out there… but I would bet money that they couldn’t tell you the fundamental diferences between a jRPG and a MMORPG without looking on Wiki. It’s about distinguishing the diference between those who are here for attention, and those who are here for the games.
All I guess I’m trying to say is… well, shut up and play.

I really don’t see the appeal of this topic to anyone. I have been surrounded by “girl gamers” ever since I started gaming. My sister plays games. Most of my old girlfriends played games. Heck, my wife and I duel it out with the Wii and PS3 almost daily. To me, they were just gamers. Nothing more. But for some people, is it really that hard to understand that a girl can like games and maybe even beat you at them? Sounds pretty simple minded to me. What’s next? Hot topic of the year … guys who are not gamers! Please.

I guess it depend which kind of community and culture we all live in that influence our point of view of girls playing games. I’ve spend most of my adolescence being shunned for my love for anime but never been shunned for my love of video games. Now a days guys don’t care if a girl is a gamer or not they’re in it for a good game.

hey if you love to play that is great is you kick my butt in a game more power to you I don’t know why men let their egos get in the way, but I love seeing women play games.

I think it still has to be that whole boy girl mentality. That if a girl beats you in anything, you are laughed at. Silly, but it could be it.
