I feel like at masquerades you are on stage and everyone else in in the audience, you can't interact! When i work uber hard on a costume, I want to walk around and take pictures and meet fans of the series or game. That is all the fun! It would suck to not be able to wear your best costume out on the floor! I know, I think that is a reason too. Not so much for the costume judging as the skit creation and performance.
