To be completely honest, I’ve never read a comic book in my life, however, I voted for DC because 2 of my favorite actors have played Batman, and well.. he’s a badass.
Mandy, we need to get you into comics. Go pick up the Emma Frost series…. you will love it! I promise. Or, maybe Danger Girl. That’s a great starter series!
I have been collecting comics since 1984 and I have read just about every major storyline that they have done in both companies since then. Hell, I even dropped around 550 recently to collect the original Dark Phoenix saga and some missing issues of Crisis on Infinite Earths. And while both companies have their good and bad, I feel more comfortable buying a Marvel title over a DC one. Their characters seemed more fleshed out. They seem more approachable. They seemed more real. And to read them, their different heroes all seem because of their flaws, as someone who you could possibly know in real life. While DC and it pantheon of god heroes make for great, over the top, save all of reality heroes, have some excellent characters and storylines (Green Lantern … awesome), they just sometimes seem to unapproachable and like nothing can even hurt them, making some of their stories make me go “Why even do this?”
I don’t get the inhuman do-gooder nature of DC. Can someone spare a Guy Gardner?
The interesting thing is my taste in comics entirely came from girls I knew who got me into comics- I’m probably one of the few guys who got into comics that way.
Not really a huge X-Men fan, but that’s mostly due to me spending the funds somewhere else, and a very obnoxious supervisor I had in the Air Force.
All of the DC characters have these super powers and are practically invincible. That is until they felt they HAD to kill a few off. I always felt like they were these inhuman/mythical beings where the X-men were more relatable.
Ah, maybe the fact I stayed away from the Justice Leaguers helped me not see that. Stuff I started with was Green Lantern, JSA, Birds of Prey, and Manhunter- which were the ones recommended to me. All are good quality series.
I like both universes but um, why is there SO many more Marvel characters squeezed into the comparison pic, as opposed to DC which has like the core ten characters? Just curious.
Marvel ftw! Well said Aktrez. DC characters are goody two shoes. Heck at one point they were the Superfriends with Wendy and Marvin. How cute lol. Marvel is raw!
I am voting for DC by a narrow margin
I do like both worlds
Sometimes I am in a frame of mind where I need DC and sometimes I am in a frame of mind where I need Marvel
We need both of them for contrast
But its a great idea for a poll!
Becky - I know. I’ve been meaning to sample some comics out, but I just haven’t yet. The store is a whole 2 blocks away from me. hehe.
I think I’d be more into some of the darker stuff.. my boyfriend recommened Dark Horse. I read True Crime & Crime Fiction as my choice of novels, so… that being said, anyone can feel free to suggest!
Ak- if you want a series in DC where they aren’t afraid to kill people off- look at Green Lantern. It also helps that over the last couple of years- GLC has been their best book qualitywise (GL is good, just not as good).
Mandy, A LOT of publishers have comics online now. Dark Horse is good and also Top Cow has some good ones. See if they have any of them online. It’s a good place to start.
@whatistechnoagain: Batman a Marvel character? That wouldn’t work. Think about it: A multimillionaire, has powerful industry under his control, cutting-edge technology that lets him “fly” (literally or not), dual identity… Doesn’t that sound like Tony Stark? But seriously, Batman teamed with Wolverine? Too great to be true!
Overall, agree that what probably makes Marvel characters more appealing is their human nature. They have everyday issues, like the readers, and so we feel identified with them more easily.
While I love superhero stuff in a general sense, I’ve never been obsessed with them. That said, you can put ALL of the heroes around on one side of the room, and Batman on the other, and I’ll take Batman every time.
(Plus, he’d kick all their butts even if they were working together.)
Ahh… but Emma would be able to read his mind and KNOW what he was going to do next. Not only that, but she could manipulate him to become a Marvel character and, if her powers should break, she simply turns to diamond and resists any aggro he may throw her way.
Let’s put it this way- if I was to take one DC character and set them against an entire Marvel team- I’d pick Hal or Kyle.
Hal because he had a plan to take out the entire Justice League, and Kyle because if he doesn’t have his ADD act up, he’d come up with something that works.
Lanterns are also psi-shielded. Then again Hal would probably do the job, and just as he’s about to finish, he knocks himself out by running into a tree.
I have spent almost all day thinking about this poll…
And with that being said Im not going to vote at the moment So can someone tell me the results so far? ^^;;
I’ve been a Marvel girl since the start of my comic love affair, but then the last 3 years I’ve been getting into a lot more DC comics. Birds of Prey is the one I love at the moment, since Black Canary has always been my favorite
But I kinda stopped really getting into the X-Men when they killed my favorite character, Psylocke :’(
But I still love X-Men, and always will.
And I won’t start up who would win who in a fight…since I’ve already had that conversation today in my LAN shop. (It didn’t end well -_-;)
But great poll Becky!! And yes, I love the White Queen herself and Batman is also my secret lover
Yeah, I heard about that. But someone told me she appears to be more “cheesy” and “fake” rather than the old Psylocke
So I never have read them personally yet so I don’t know if its true or not, but I was still heartborken about the first time.
I don’t know. She is toned down a bit, but I wouldn’t say cheesey. They are kind of showing how dying has changed her a bit, but that would be something that they would explore anyway, considering she was brought back from the dead. In any case, I still like her and I think they are doing okay with her.
Kencho: Haha, of course he’s a lot like Tony Stark. But as a friend of mine and I recently discussed … heh, they both have some major differences between them if you think about it (eg., why Tony Stark could go public as Iron Man and Batman hasn’t—for good reason).
Plus, hey, they’re sharing this summer’s box office, right? Why can’t they both exist in the huuuge Marvel universe?
Druidblue … you are now one of my favorite people, haha! Batman rocks!
Batman, in his infinite wisdom, would know Emma’s strengths and using his unmatched martial arts focus, empty his mind of every thought while still being able to fluidly perform in combat.
Then, when she turns into diamond, he would simply throw a bag over her and take her to the nearest jewelry store and make a few million selling her!
Never really been into comics. I choose Marvel because its more realistic too me. I always thought DC was better and still do but I have grown and DC feels childish at this point of my life.
Well Marvel l
Mortal Kombat Vs. DC should be interesting.
Although my true allegiance lies with Marvel…
I was a HUGE fan of DC’s short-lived offshoot ‘Milestone’ comics. (Million cool points to anyone that has actually heard of it… anyone…? anyone…?)

Gotta go with Marvel on this one, even though my beloved Batman’s DC.
(I feel like I’m betraying him, LOL)

Marvel > DC, although I love them both.
Hey, I have to justify my hundreds of Spider-Man comics somehow, right?

That is why I Make Mine Marvel.
I mostly go for Marvel, but also enjoy many DC characters (Batman specially).

I totally agree with you, Ricky. And man, Batman should just be a Marvel character. Then I would feel much better about how I voted, haha!
Yay Batman, Kencho!
Gotta love our Bats.
I looove the X-men. Especially Wolverine. Ahh, Wolvie.
Because Marvel rules, dt0423! LOL! Just kidding—it was a problem of finding an even Marvel image and an even DC image.

Top Cow and Dark Horse were both at the NYCC
That made me think I wish VirtualGirl was there to hang out with the gang from Top Cow

There’s just nothing cooler than Batman to me.

Umm..*edit* Forget what I said about the results…I pulled a Supergirl and just now found the view results button..heh. ^^;
Actually Psylocke is back from the dead and can be found in the pages of Exiles. And yes, it is the Psylocke from Earth 616, not some other Psylocke.
P.S. She is my favorite X-Man also.
Yeah, I heard about that. But someone told me she appears to be more “cheesy” and “fake” rather than the old Psylocke

*lol* (Ok, maybe not… =D)
Marvel all the way. Batman is cool… but nothing compares to characters like Spidey, X-Men, Iron-Man, Hulk, Daredevil, etc.
And lets not forget… Gwen Stacy!!
T.T.
You just like Spidey way too much Tommy. But that is cool with me.
… Ugh, you didn’t just put Spider-Man before Batman.
Never really been into comics. I choose Marvel because its more realistic too me. I always thought DC was better and still do but I have grown and DC feels childish at this point of my life.
PS: SNK beats all!
I so want to see DC and SNK work together on something- think of Batman vs Geese Howard. That would be classic.
I’ve always been a DC fan ever since I saw Superman… which is weird considering my first comic books were Spider-Man books.
Also, another reason DC is better, Starman by Robinson and Harris. Best damn superhero series EVER!
Well Marvel l
Mortal Kombat Vs. DC should be interesting.

Can’t go against Stan Lee though. Period.
