Another installment in the Pilot Season ‘o8 competition comes out Thursday! Read my early review of the comic—Urban Myths #1—after the jump!

Pilot Season: Urban Myths #1
Writer: Jay Faerber
Artist: Jorge Molina
Letterer: Troy Peteri
Design: Chaz Riggs
Editor: Robin Levin
Cover: Jorge Molina

Summary: “Journey to New Athens - a modern-day world where humans still worship the Greek Gods and the Greek Gods still meddle in the lives of men. In this world, if you think your wife’s cheating on you, first you pray to Aphrodite for a way to win her back. If that doesn’t work, you hire Jack Medusa, private eye, to get the goods on film. Son of the infamous Medusa, Jack wears a metal mask to protect the people around him. He’s a social leper but a damn good P.I., and he takes on cases the police won’t touch.

Wow! Best Pilot Season comic yet!

The art (by Jorge Molina) is fresh, amazing, and fun—a perfect match for the story (“The Dead End”) written by Jay Faerber.

In the comic, Jack Kaklamanis (aka Jack Medusa, nicknamed for a trait passed down from his mother) is a detective hired to find a missing girl, Jennifer Sinclair. The story takes us through the streets of New Athens to Hades and back—and it’s a hell of a ride.

Not only does the story suck you in right from the beginning line of dialogue, but the world you’re drawn into is already developed and well-thought out. The characters and the plot are original, and it’s easy to follow the storyline. Everything makes sense, and this comic gives you an entire mini-story (which is nice) in one issue while simultaneously leaving the ending open for #2.

This comic is just solid, start to finish. If you want something refreshing, you HAVE to check out Urban Myths. It’s extremely well done and very enjoyable. Five out of five stars, definitely.

Check out a preview over at Top Cow. You can pick up the comic—all thirty-two gorgeous pages of it—for $3.99 this Thursday.

Alibi VS Urban Myths

wita-pilot-season-alibi-versus-urban-myths

Like the last comic I reviewed (Pilot Season: Alibi #1), Urban Myths leaves you wanting more—but this time around you know exactly what it is you want more of. As cool as Alibi was, the reader had no idea what was going on. It was extremely fast-paced and thus didn’t leave enough time to absorb what was happening. Think of Alibi as being dragged along for a great ride … and Urban Myths as you riding in the front seat.
