Top Cow was nice enough to give GEN an advanced copy of the comic. So should you check out the season one finale comic of Top Cow’s Madame Mirage (in stores Wednesday)? A review after the jump.

Summary: “Don’t miss the finale of Madame Mirage Season 1! The answers to the questions surrounding Madame Mirage’s motives and her unexpected alliance with the villains of ASI are revealed in this issue. The first arc of Paul Dini’s latest smash comes to a shocking conclusion here!”

Chances are you’re like me and haven’t heard of this title before—either that or you haven’t read it. And this comic, Madame Mirage #6, isn’t easy to jump into.

The main character, Harper, immediately reminded me of Rikku from Final Fantasy X—except Harper is cooler, both in looks and personality. Her outfit is … well, imagine if Rikku had been a character in the FFXII world (with its toned down, almost mellow color scheme).

There’s a lot going on in this issue, and it happens really fast. If you’re not familiar with the storyline, it’s hard not to get lost in the shuffle. As far as backtracking goes, the comic doesn’t review very well—it feels too rushed. If it were a movie, there would be too little plot and too much action. Like X-men 3.

(Ouch. X-men 3?) That’s not to say this comic sucks. It was actually pretty interesting, but as far as characters go, it was a mess. There was just too much bombarding me at once while I was reading it, and it was getting extremely confusing. Jumping in, there was a lot that just seemed random and unexplained—or, at least, not very thoroughly explained.

Would I recommend it? Yes, but under certain conditions. If you’ve read the previous comics and liked them, then definitely complete the storyline. However, if you want to check out what Madame Mirage is, this isn’t the comic to start out with. But the storyline itself is intriguing enough to want to track down the prior issues.

You can check out the official preview over at Comicbookresources.com. Thanks to the people over at Top Cow for the early copy!
