I had the chance to visit Okinawa, Japan several years ago, and one of the things I’ll always remember is what one of the locals said to me, “musicians are outcasts, they are not respected, especially female musicians.” Like many of you, I am absolutely in love with the Japanese culture. Japan is a contradiction of old traditions and customs mixed with some of the craziest street fashion and music that I have ever seen/heard. That being said, I would like to introduce GACKT… one of Japans hottest Rockstars!

Well, Free Comic Book Day finally arrived! Many comic book stores across the country were open twenty-four hours Saturday in celebration of the event that brings comic book fans, old and new, of all ages together and helps keep the industry and local businesses alive. Did you get your free comics?

So as some of you know I went on a short, impromptu trip to New York City last week to visit some friends and get away from it all. That’s right, a gathering of geeks, a congregation of cosplayers and herds of “Hug Me!” signholders. While conventions, which vary from anime to Star Trek, go on throughout the year, spring/summer is usually considered con season as most of the big name conventions are held when most people are able off school and work and are able to attend.

What’s so special about May 3rd, you might be asking yourself? Free Comic Book Day, of course!

As PrincessTwilight brought to your attention recently, Kannaya and I joined her at Anime Detour this past month and had a fantastic time cosplaying. Kannaya and I had been planning a set of costumes from one of our favorite anime shows for some time before we decided to also rock the femme-Mario look. Read on to find out about making our costumes for FLCL – an anime you can watch a hundred times and still never quite understand.
